Why did we enable this feature?

Previously, agents were unable to restrict or limit an insured’s answers in certain columns within a schedule (i.e. Construction Type). This often resulted in unacceptable answers/values for which the agent was unable to get a quote from an underwriter.

Benefits of the Feature:

This feature will allow agents to make certain columns on a schedule into a dropdown list of acceptable values which the insured is able to select. In doing so, clients will be prevented from entering invalid/unacceptable answers into the schedule.

How Does the Feature Work:

Adding Dropdown Validation to a Column

Agents can now add Dropdown Validation to a column in the schedule by clicking "Create Dropdown Validation" in the column menu

The dropdown modal is triggered. The agent then enters values (separated by commas) and clicks the "Create Dropdown" button

The dropdown is created and the agent can now view the dropdown values

Renewal Use Case: Adding dropdown validation when values are already present in a column

The agent creates a dropdown column on a renewing schedule. Cells with invalid data are denoted by a red border to the client.

Previous values remain in the cell for the client to update to a newly created dropdown option.

If the insured clicks the Mark Reviewed button when invalid input exists in a column with dropdown validation, a message will appear directing them to select an acceptable value from the dropdown list.

Editing Dropdown Validation

The agent selects Edit Dropdown Validation in the column menu

The agent edits values and clicks Save button

Dropdown values are updated

NOTE: If a value that was removed from the dropdown was previously selected, it will still be shown in the cell, but will be considered invalid input.

Removing Dropdown Validation

The agent selects Edit Dropdown Validation in the column menu & pop up modal appears

The agent clicks the Remove Dropdown Validation button

NOTE: when dropdown validation is removed, previously selected values remain in the cell.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs):

Q: Will dropdown validation be available for all field types?

A: No, dropdowns validation will be available ONLY for Text Fields.

Q: If an agent removes dropdown validation, but then adds it back at a later time, will the previously entered values be pre-populated for the agent?

A: Yes

Q: If the agent or client begins typing into a cell with dropdown validation, does it begin to filter down the list of available values to select?

A: Yes

Q: What happens if the agent or client manually enters an invalid value into the cell with dropdown validation?

A: The invalid value is not entered into the cell. The cell will revert back to its previous state (blank or original invalid value). Freeform text entry is not allowed in columns with dropdown validation.
