What is it?
Epic has a four part security structure that controls what accounts and policies different users can access (Agency Code, Branch Code, Department, and Profit Center). Indio on the other hand currently only has just one layer of restriction (Region). This in turn makes it difficult for admins to manage permissions and causes confusion over what agents in Indio should have access to.
In our efforts to provide tighter integration between Epic and Indio, the region-based permission has now been replaced by Epic structures for each client and user and will have permissions based on them. Indio can now restrict access to accounts by utilizing the Region and Branch code combinations set for an account on Epic.
Why did we create this feature?
We’ve integrated Epic’s structure levels into Indio to better support agencies that require more granular permission controls aligned with their existing Epic configurations. Currently, Indio only offers its own single-layer security model based on assigned regions, which limited flexibility for organizations that rely on Epic's multi-level structure to manage account access. This gap created compliance challenges and hindered broader adoption of the platform.
With the introduction of Region and Branch code-level access based on Epic structures, agencies can now enforce stricter data security, meet internal privacy standards, and confidently scale Indio usage across their organization.
Note: This feature is currently not available to all agencies. It is exclusively supported for Indio agencies that are using Epic, and requires the agency to be utilizing Applied Identity. If you would like to enable this feature for your agency, please contact our support team.
---Before you Begin---
Please ensure that you and your agency/brokerage on Indio is utilizing Applied Identity to login to Indio. This is to ensure that your Indio account is linked with your Epic account in order to pull the Epic structures combination that are available to your user on Epic to Indio. Without this login connection you're user will be unable to access accounts that are restricted using Epic structures.
---Guide---
Indio Users with Epic Structure Combinations:
After logging in with Applied Identity Indio Indio head over to "My profile & Settings" and click, "Access & Permissions". The first major difference you will see is that Indio has now replaced the "Assigned Region(s)" section with the new "Current Account Access Level".
These are the structure combinations that are available to your Epic account which are now accessible in Indio.
Note: Changes to a user's structure combination needs to be managed on Epic. Once changes are implemented on Epic, the user(s) needs to logout and log back in for the structures to update on Indio. Epic structures cannot be updated on the Indio platform.
Indio admin's that have access to team management are able to view the structure combinations available to users by clicking on the respective user.
If a user has access to all structure combinations available to the agency, instead of displaying all possible structure combination the section will inform the user the agent has All Structure Access assigned. This behavior is consistent on the user's settings Access & Permissions section.
These structures pulled from Epic will allow Indio to determine whether or not a user should have access to an account or not based on whether the combination the user has matches with whats available to the client account.
Client Accounts with Epic Structures:
In order for an account on Indio to pull Epic structures please be sure to sync the Indio account with respective Epic account. For more information please visit: How to Sync Account and Contact Information to Indio From Applied Epic.
If the synced account from Epic contains structures, we are able to view the available account structure combinations from the Info bar on the right hand corner of an account.
Similarly, heading over to the Manage Account tab, the general Info section will contain an option to click and view the available structure combinations for the client account.
Note: An account's structure combination cannot be updated on Indio. In order to update the account's available structure combination, head over to the respective synced account on Epic and make the necessary adjustments for the account's structure combination. Once changes has been made, users can either manually import these changes by selecting Sync with Epic > Import From Epic. The other option is to wait for changes to automatically take place via an automatic sync that runs on a nightly schedule.
Similar to how Epic structures allows restrictions to Client accounts, this feature now implements the Epic structures functionality on the Indio platform. Given the structure combination available to a client account, any user that also contains the structure combination will now be able to access the account.
Filter Accounts by Epic Structures:
On the Accounts List page, the filters now contain options to filter accounts based off Agency and Branch Code.
Similarly, users that have access to the Reports on Indio will also be able to filter by Agency and Branch code. These Epic structure filters are only available on:
Agent Report
Client Report
Renewal Report
Agent Adoption Report
---FAQ---
Epic also allows policy level restrictions through the use of Department and Profit center structures, does Indio have a similar functionality?
Indio does have a similar functionality known as Permissions at a Submission Level. This feature uses Epic structures to provide Indio with restrictions at a submission level, similar to how Epic policies are restricted.
Note: This feature is not enabled for all agencies. If you would like to implement this feature for your agency please ensure that you have Applied Identity & Epic structures on Indio enabled. For more information please contact our support team.
Why is logging in with Applied Identity necessary for using Epic Structures?
If users do not login with Applied Identity and link their Epic account to their Indio account, we are unable to retrieve the available structure combinations from the user's Epic account to the Indio platform. Moreover, once Applied Identity is setup, users will be able to log into Indio using their Epic credentials, removing the need for having an extra set of login credentials for Indio.
Are we able to update and manage Epic structures on Indio?
Epic structures are unable to be changed on the Indio platform, these structure combinations are retrieved directly from Epic, either when a user logs into Indio using Applied Identity or when a Client account is synced from Epic to Indio. In order to make adjustments to a user's Epic structure combination or Client account's structure combination, head over to Epic to make the necessary adjustments.
